In this book, Bush and Folger help us re-imagine mediation within a relational framework where emotions and painful histories are essential features of the conflict transformation process. This framework not only focuses on the connection between people, but alos favors reflection on the parties' experiences, as human being. Here Bush and Folger present four views or "stories" which describe the field of mediation. The first, most commonly espoused, story is the "satisfaction story." This story says that mediation is better than adversarial dispute resolution because it uses collaborative and integrative approaches to reach win-win solutions that satisfy the needs of all parties, not just one. 2020-11-03 · Bush and Folger are clear that The Promise of Mediation has a theoretical dimension, using the term, “The Transformative Theory of Conflict” (p.

Hallmarks of transformative mediation. Robert Baruch Bush and Joseph P. Folger, (1994) in their article “Transformative Mediation and Third-Party Intervention: Ten Hallmarks of a Transformative Approach to Practice,” identify what they consider to be ten major patterns of practice adhered to by transformative mediators. Those hallmarks are: The humanistic approach to mediation developed in parallel to Bush and Folger's transformative mediation in the 1990s. While fully harmonizing with transformative mediation, humanistic mediation emphasizes a greater departure from skill-based techniques and gives less attention to problem solving. Dan Simon also teaches transformative mediation to attorneys, therapists, and mediators who wish to become certified in Transformative Mediation. *Transformative Mediation was first articulated by Robert A. Baruch Bush and Joseph P. Folger in The Promise of Mediation (Jossey-Bass, 1994).

Folger mediation

Joe Folger feels that an important aspect of mediation training is to impress upon the participants that as mediators they will have influence on the disputants and to make conscious choices about what kind of influence they want to have and to be clear about their ideological principles behind these choices. Chapter Four presents Bush and Folger's transformative approach to mediation, which stresses the concepts of empowerment and recognition. In this chapter, they describe empowerment as it refers to goals, options, skills, resources, and decision-making.
